The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) is hiring for Summer 2026!

Available Position:

The Early Resolution Department is seeking motivated and talented individuals for the role of Early Resolution Student in the Tribunal and Dispute Resolution Division.

What you can expect in this role:

As an Early Resolution Student, you will:

  • Develop experience interpreting legislation by supporting analysis of how various laws apply to access and privacy rights under Ontario’s access and privacy laws.
  • Learn how to communicate the purpose of access and privacy legislation and tribunal processes to a range of stakeholders.
  • Support the triage of access and privacy complaints by assisting Early Resolution Managers with fact-gathering and documenting information related to complaints and self-reported breaches on our case management system.
  • Support case review and decision-making processes by preparing draft materials and written documentation under the guidance of experienced analysts.
  • Provide support to the Early Resolution team by reviewing IPC website material to ensure relevance to recent changes to tribunal structure.
  • Participate in training opportunities to build your understanding of access and privacy law and public-sector decision-making.

How do I qualify?

Summer Student Requirements:

  • You must meet all eligibility criteria by the first day of employment:
  • You must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution and returning to full-time studies in the fall OR have graduated within the past six months from the start of the summer program. (For example, if you graduated in December, you could apply for and start a summer student position with the IPC until June of the following year).
  • You must be a minimum of 18 years old. There is no maximum age limit.
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.

Preference will be given to post-secondary students enrolled in a discipline relevant to law or legal studies, and/or public policy or administration.


Job Requirements:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to respond to issues, prepare reports, and support the provision of recommendations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong positive, supportive, and results-oriented attitude.
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills to handle assignments within established timelines, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, case-driven environment.
  • Ability to apply appropriate judgement and knowledge according to the varying circumstances and situations.
  • Well-developed information-seeking, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using standard computer software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, Microsoft 365) to research and prepare materials.
  • Requirement to work in-person from the Toronto office for a minimum of six (6) days per month.

Compensation Group:

The collective bargaining process is currently underway, and this position will be represented by the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario (AMAPCEO).
